How Otterly handles your data
Otterly is a hydration and water-tracking app for iPhone and Apple Watch. This policy explains, honestly and specifically, what data the app handles, where it is stored, and your rights over it. It is written to reflect exactly how the app behaves.
Otterly is developed and operated by Huseyin Yenilmez, an individual developer based in Türkiye, acting as the data controller.
For any privacy question or request, you can contact us at:

The table below lists every category of data Otterly handles, why, where it lives, and how long we keep it.
| Data | Why | Where stored | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hydration intake logs, goals, app settings, mascot & wardrobe state | To track your water intake, run reminders, and power the app experience | Locally on your device, in an iOS App Group container shared between the app, the watch app, and widgets — and, if iCloud is enabled on your device, backed up to your private iCloud account (Apple CloudKit) so your data survives reinstalls. Never sent to our servers. | Until you delete the app or clear data in-app |
| HealthKit data (workouts, active energy, dietary water) | Optional. Read to help suggest a smart daily goal; the water you log is written back as dietary water so it appears in Apple Health | On your device via Apple Health. Never sent to our servers or any third party. | Controlled by you in Apple Health; we store no copy |
| Approximate (coarse) location | Optional. Used with Apple WeatherKit to raise your daily goal on hot days | Used on-device / at the moment of the request only. Never stored on our servers. | Not stored by us |
| Social profile: displayName, 6-character friendCode, weeklyScore (0–700), streak, leagueTier; friend relationships, weekly duels, league membership | Optional. Powers friends, duels and leagues | Firebase (Google Cloud), European (EUR) region. This is a small public profile only. | Until you delete your account in the app |
| Purchase receipt + anonymous RevenueCat app-user ID | To unlock the Otterly+ "plus" entitlement and restore purchases | RevenueCat. No name or email. Apple handles payment. | As long as needed to manage your subscription |
| Game Center leaderboard score & achievements | Optional. Leaderboards and achievements | Apple Game Center, under Apple's privacy policy | Managed by Apple |
| Local notification schedule | Hydration reminders | On your device only. No push server is used. | Until you disable reminders or delete the app |
| Usage & interaction events (screens viewed, features used, funnel steps), plus a per-install identifier (IDFV) | Aggregate product analytics to understand how Otterly is used and improve it | Firebase / Google Analytics (Google). Not linked to your identity; no ads; no cross-app tracking. | Per Google Analytics retention (see Google's policy) |
Connecting Apple Health is optional and always user-initiated. If you grant permission, Otterly reads your workouts, active energy, and dietary water to help set a smart daily hydration goal, and writes the water you log back as dietary water so it appears in the Apple Health app.
To be completely explicit, as required by App Store Guideline 5.1.3:
You can review or revoke Otterly's Health permissions at any time in the Apple Health app under Sharing.
The optional friends, duels, and leagues features use Firebase (Google Cloud), with the project hosted in the European (EUR) region.
Sign-in uses Anonymous sign-in and, optionally, Sign in with Apple. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we never receive it.
Firebase Firestore stores a small public profile only: your displayName, a 6-character friendCode, your weeklyScore (0–700), streak, and leagueTier, along with your friend relationships, weekly duels, and league group membership.
No health data, no intake logs, no precise location, and no email is ever stored in Firebase.
Deleting your account (see below) removes this data from Firebase.
Otterly uses Firebase / Google Analytics to collect aggregate usage statistics — which screens are viewed, which features are used, and how far people get through flows like onboarding and setup. This helps us understand what works and improve the app.
The analytics identifier is the IDFV (identifier for vendor), a per-install identifier that is not shared across apps from other developers. We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), we do not show ads, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites — so there is no App Tracking Transparency prompt. Analytics data is not linked to your account or your name, and we never send your hydration logs, health data, precise location, or any content you type to Google Analytics. We use this data only in aggregate to improve the product; it is never sold. Google processes this data as described in Google's Privacy Policy and Firebase's privacy documentation.
Otterly+ subscriptions are managed with RevenueCat. RevenueCat processes your purchase receipt and an anonymous RevenueCat app-user ID to unlock the "plus" entitlement and to let you restore purchases. We do not send your name or email to RevenueCat. Apple handles the actual payment; we never see your card details.
Location is an optional toggle. When enabled, Otterly uses your approximate (coarse) location with Apple WeatherKit to raise your daily goal on hot days. Location is used on-device and at the moment of the request only. It is never stored on our servers and never shared.
Game Center is optional. If you use it, your leaderboard score and achievements are managed by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy.
Hydration reminders are scheduled on your device. Otterly does not use a push notification server.
Otterly is rated 4+ and may be used by minors. We do not knowingly collect data from children beyond the on-device data and the optional anonymous social data described in this policy. There are no ads and no cross-app tracking in Otterly (the analytics we use is aggregate, IDFV-only, and not used for tracking). If you are a parent or guardian and have any concern about your child's use of the app or wish to have data removed, please contact us at hello@skyvoyager.io.
You have the right to access your data, and to have it deleted:
Depending on where you live, you may also have rights under the GDPR and Türkiye's KVKK, including the rights to access, rectification, erasure, and objection. To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@skyvoyager.io.
The limited third-party services Otterly relies on — Firebase / Google, RevenueCat, and Apple (Apple Health, WeatherKit, Game Center, App Store payments) — are contractually and technically required to provide protection for your data at least equivalent to that described in this policy. We only share the minimum data described above with each of them.
We may update this policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the app. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will be communicated within the app where appropriate.
If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at:
